The northern end of the beach and Gwenver, beyond it, are more exposed and powerful, and are better suited to experienced surfers. What to expect from a lesson
A typical beginner lesson lasts around two to three hours and includes a wetsuit, a soft foam board and safety equipment. Your instructor will begin on the sand, teaching you how to paddle, catch a wave and stand up, and explaining how to read the sea and stay safe. Then you will practise in the shallows, catching white water waves. Many people stand up in their first session.
